About the Box Jellyfish

The most venomous creature in the ocean. Their venom can kill a human in under 5 minutes. They have 24 eyes of four different types, including some that can form images and detect color. They are among the few jellyfish that actively hunt rather than drift. They can swim at 7.5 km/h. Their tentacles can extend 3 meters. They are transparent and nearly invisible in water. Over 40 species exist. Irukandji jellyfish, a tiny relative, causes Irukandji syndrome - a feeling of impending doom so severe victims have begged doctors to kill them. They are most dangerous October through May in Australia.
