About the Olive Ridley Sea Turtle

Famous for arribada - synchronized mass nesting where thousands of females come ashore together. The largest arribada had 200,000 turtles on a single beach in India. They are the most abundant sea turtle species. They are still hunted for meat and eggs despite protections. They can dive to 150 meters. Their heart-shaped shell is olive green. They nest 1-3 times per season laying 100-110 eggs each time. They migrate across entire ocean basins. Conservation efforts in Costa Rica and India have helped some populations recover.
