Coral (Table)
About the Coral (Table)
Form broad flat tables that shade and outcompete other corals below. Their table shape maximizes light capture while providing habitat for reef fish. They are among the fastest-growing corals, adding 10-20 cm per year. They are sensitive to warming and bleaching. Over 150 Acropora species exist. They are the dominant reef builders of the Indo-Pacific. They are often the first to bleach during temperature stress. Their skeletal structure provides the complex three-dimensional habitat that makes reefs so biodiverse.
