Angelfish (Emperor)
About the Angelfish (Emperor)
They undergo one of the most dramatic color transformations of any fish. Juveniles are dark blue with white and blue spirals. Adults are yellow and blue with horizontal stripes. The two forms look so different they were once classified as separate species. They can live 20+ years. They are among the most photographed reef fish. They are found throughout the Indo-Pacific. They are protogynous hermaphrodites. Males are territorial, defending a harem of 2-5 females. They are prized in the aquarium trade for their stunning colors.
