About the Emperor Penguin
The deepest-diving bird, reaching 565 meters and holding their breath for 22 minutes. Males incubate eggs on their feet for 65 days through Antarctic winter at -60 degrees C, fasting the entire time. They huddle in rotating groups to share warmth, taking turns on the outside. They are the tallest and heaviest penguins. Their feathers provide the best insulation of any bird - 4x better than human-made insulation. They can reduce their heart rate to 5 beats per minute while diving. They can drink saltwater. Their population is threatened by climate change.
