About the Albatross (Wandering)

The largest wingspan of any bird at 3.5 meters. They can fly 900 km in a single day without flapping their wings. They can live 70+ years. They mate for life and spend years apart at sea before reuniting to breed. An albatross called Wisdom is the oldest known wild bird at 74+ years old, still laying eggs. They are accidental bycatch victims of longline fishing - an estimated 100,000 are killed annually. They can circumnavigate the Southern Ocean in 46 days. They drink seawater. Their tubenose helps them smell food from 20 km away. 17 of 22 species are threatened with extinction.
