Blenny (Midas)
About the Blenny (Midas)
Bright golden-yellow eel-like fish that inhabit holes in coral. They are among the most popular blennies in the aquarium trade. They sometimes mimic cleaner wrasses to get close to prey fish before biting chunks out of their fins. Over 800 species of blennies exist. They have no swim bladder and rest on surfaces. They are found from tide pools to 100 meters depth. Many are cryptic and rarely seen. Some species can hop across tide pools using their pectoral fins. They are important prey for larger reef fish.
