About the Mola Mola (Ocean Sunfish)

The heaviest bony fish in the world, reaching 2,300 kg. They look like a fish head with a tail stuck on. They are the most prolific egg-layers of any vertebrate - up to 300 million eggs at a time. They sunbathe at the surface to warm up after deep dives and to ask cleaner fish to remove parasites. They are covered in 40+ species of parasites. Their skin is up to 7 cm thick and rough like sandpaper. They have no swim bladder. They are clumsy swimmers but can leap out of the water. They are a delicacy in Japan and Taiwan despite containing toxins.
