About the Oceanic Whitetip Shark

Once considered the most dangerous shark in the ocean - Jacques Cousteau called them the most dangerous of all sharks. During WWII ship sinkings, they were responsible for many deaths. They were the most common large predator in the open ocean but populations have crashed 93% due to finning. Their distinctive white-tipped fins are visible above the water. They follow ships and whale pods for scavenging. They are bold and inquisitive, approaching divers and boats. They can grow to 4 meters. They are now critically endangered. Their decline is one of the fastest of any shark species.
