About the Ribbon Eel

One of the most striking eels with a bright blue and yellow coloration. All ribbon eels are born male and change to female as they age, turning fully yellow in the female phase. They have a characteristic flared nostril that looks like a fan. They are shy and reclusive. They burrow into sandy or rubble substrates. They are found throughout the Indo-Pacific. They are protandrous hermaphrodites. Males are blue and black, females are yellow. Their transformation from male to female is complete including color change.
