About the Scorpionfish (Stonefish relative)

Related to stonefish but generally less venomous. Over 400 species of scorpionfish exist. They are masters of camouflage, looking like rocks or coral. They have venomous spines that cause intense pain. Some species are known as turkeyfish. They are ambush predators. They are found in all tropical seas. Some deep-sea species are bright red. They can inflate their bodies to appear larger. Their fossils date back 30 million years. They are sometimes sold in fish markets despite the venom risk.
