Mantis Shrimp (Smasher)
About the Mantis Shrimp (Smasher)
The smasher variety of mantis shrimp uses club-like appendages instead of spears. Their clubs are made of multiple layers that prevent cracking - so effective that the military studies their structure for body armor design. The surface of their clubs is as hard as aluminum oxide. They can deliver 5,000 punches without damaging their clubs. They are more colorful and territorial than spearers. They are the primary model for biomimetic armor research.
