About the Swordfish

Their sword (extended upper jaw) can pierce small boats and has impaled humans. They are among the fastest fish, reaching 100 km/h. They have special tissue behind their eyes that heats their brain and eyes, improving vision during deep dives to 2,800 meters. They are voracious predators that slash through schools of fish. They have no scales as adults. They can live 15+ years. Females grow much larger than males. They are heavily fished commercially. Their flesh is firm and meaty. They have been hunted since ancient times. The Mediterranean population is overfished.
