Thresher Shark
About the Thresher Shark
Their tail fin is as long as their body - they use it as a whip to stun prey fish. High-speed camera footage showed them cracking their tails at 130 km/h through schools of fish. They can breach completely out of the water. They have enormous eyes adapted for hunting in dim light. They are among the few sharks that can jump completely out of the water. Three species exist. They are ovoviviparous with only 2-4 pups per litter. They are vulnerable to overfishing. Their meat is valued and their fins are used in shark fin soup. They can live 20+ years. They are found in all oceans.
