Tang (Yellow)
About the Tang (Yellow)
One of the most popular marine aquarium fish. They are bright yellow and stand out dramatically on reefs. They have a sharp spine near their tail for defense. They are found only in the Pacific from Japan to Hawaii. Hawaii banned collection of yellow tangs in 2021 to protect wild populations. They are herbivores that play a key role in controlling algae on reefs. They can live 10+ years. They are diurnal and hide in reef crevices at night. They are sometimes called yellow sailfin tangs. They spawn in groups at dusk.
