About the Colossal Squid

The largest invertebrate on Earth, possibly reaching 14 meters. They have the largest eyes in the animal kingdom - 27 cm across, the size of dinner plates. Their tentacles are lined with rotating hooks, not just suckers. Fewer than 10 complete specimens have ever been examined. They live at 1,000-2,000 meters depth. Sperm whales are their primary predator - their beaks are found in whale stomachs. They may be the most intelligent invertebrate after octopuses. One specimen weighed 495 kg. They are thought to be ambush predators. Their biology remains largely mysterious due to the difficulty of observation.
