About the Blue-Ringed Octopus

One of the most venomous animals on Earth. Their bite contains tetrodotoxin, the same toxin as pufferfish. A single octopus carries enough venom to kill 26 adults within minutes. There is no antidote. Their blue rings flash as a warning when threatened. They are tiny - only 5-8 cm. Over 10 species exist. Many bites are painless, with victims not realizing they have been bitten until paralysis sets in. They are found in shallow tide pools where people wade. They are beautiful but deadly. They can change color in milliseconds. They hide in shells and crevices.
