About the Octopus (Dumbo)

Named for their ear-like fins that resemble Disney Dumbo elephant ears. They are among the deepest-living octopuses, found at 3,000-5,000 meters. They hover above the seafloor using their ear-like fins. Over 15 species are known. They are found worldwide in deep water. They are among the rarest and most elusive octopuses. They swallow prey whole, unlike shallow-water octopuses that use beaks. They have been observed laying eggs on the seafloor. They are adapted to extreme pressure and cold. They are sometimes called umbrella octopuses.
