About the Mimic Octopus

The greatest mimic in the animal kingdom. It can impersonate over 15 different species including lionfish, flatfish, sea snakes, jellyfish, and mantis shrimp. It chooses which model to impersonate based on the predator approaching. It changes not just color and shape but behavior and swimming style. It was only discovered in 1998. It inhabits shallow, muddy estuaries. Unlike most octopuses, it hunts during the day. It contorts its body and arms to match the shape of the animal it is copying. It is the only known animal that can mimic multiple species. It is relatively small and vulnerable to many predators.
