About the Beluga Whale

Called the canary of the sea for their extensive repertoire of clicks, whistles, and chirps. They are the only whale that can move their head independently due to having unfused cervical vertebrae. They can swim backward, another unique whale ability. They molt their skin annually by rubbing on gravel beds. The famous beluga that said out sounds resembling human speech was named NOC. They can dive to 700 meters. Their distinctive white color develops with age - calves are grey. There are about 150,000 worldwide. Climate change is rapidly altering their Arctic habitat.
