About the Beaked Whale (Blainville)

One of the most extreme deep divers, regularly diving over 1,000 meters for over 45 minutes. Males have a bizarre upward-curving tusk erupting from their lower jaw that can be seen above the rostrum. They are among the most commonly stranded beaked whales. They are shy and rarely seen alive. They are found in all oceans. They may be the most widespread beaked whale species. They have reduced teeth - only the tusks are visible in males. They can live 30+ years. Their population is estimated at 100,000+.
