About the Dall Porpoise

One of the fastest small cetaceans, reaching 55 km/h. They create a rooster tail splash when swimming fast. They are among the most commonly seen porpoises in the North Pacific. They hybridize with harbor porpoises where their ranges overlap. Over 1.2 million exist. They are sometimes called spray porpoises. Japanese coastal fisheries kill thousands annually. They have a striking black and white color pattern. They can dive to 500 meters. They live 15-20 years. They are named after American naturalist W.H. Dall.
