About the Polar Bear

The largest land carnivore on Earth. They are classified as marine mammals because they spend most of their lives on sea ice. Their fur is not white - each hair is a clear hollow tube that scatters light. Their skin underneath is black to absorb heat. They can smell a seal from 32 km away. They can swim continuously for over 100 km. They are left-handed. Climate change is destroying their habitat - they must swim farther between ice floes. There are 22,000-31,000 polar bears left. They can eat 45 kg of seal blubber in one sitting.
