About the Risso Dolphin

The most heavily scarred dolphin - their bodies are covered in white scratches from squid beaks and social interactions. Older individuals appear almost completely white. They have a squarish head without a beak. They are among the largest dolphins. They can dive to 400 meters. They feed almost exclusively on squid. Over 200,000 exist worldwide. They are found in groups of 10-50. They are relatively shy and avoid boats. Their calves are born dark grey and lighten with age due to accumulating scars. They can live 35+ years.
