About the Sea Otter (Southern)
Already covered above. The southern subspecies is found only in California. Their historic range stretched from Baja California to Alaska. They were thought extinct in California until a raft of 50 was found in 1938. The current California population is about 3,000. They are a keystone species essential for kelp forest health.
